BASIC INFORMATION

Name: Ithaqua. Real name Eta Vilulf.
Aliases/titles: Night Watch, The Walking Death, The Abominable Snowman
Age: Appears early 20's, and is stuck at this physical age forever. Chronologically 100-200.
Orientation: Bisexual cismale (he/him, occasionally it/its in meta)
Canon Point: What is a canon point for him anyway... I'm fine with just going with stageplay-like rules where anything goes and all the participants of the games live together.
Species/race: Claims to have "shed his humanity" but unknown if that's literal or just a metaphor. I headcanon that he's a very young eldritch abomination.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Surface personality traits: Ithaqua is quite formal and well-spoken for someone raised away from people, but also open about his preference for the company of animals and non-humans, and in the absence of either, just being by himself rather than mingling with humans. He proudly calls himself a barbarian who spurns civilization, but he's not about to be an ass to others just because of this-- just cold or scornful if they say something he doesn't agree with.

Fashion: He values function rather than fashion. Layers and padding are especially important because of the colder temperatures in his region, and because he hunts primarily at night-- though because Ithaqua doesn't feel the cold as much, his layers and padding aren't as thick as one would expect. Curiously, he insists on having pointed stilts, a hood with large ears, and clawed gloves. His most consistent feature is the mask, and it will always be with him no matter what he wears-- if he can't wear it, he'll insist on some kind of mask anyway, even a half-mask will do.

Height: Unknown. Headcanon says he's about 6", but the stilts add about an extra 2-3ft, though it's difficult to tell sometimes just by looking at him because of how he crouches and bends. (IDV likes to exagerrate hunter sizes so I may be vastly underestimating his height.)

Build: Toes the line between lean and gaunt. His limbs look unnaturally long, like he's an underfed young man who literally got stretched out a little. With his eyes and fangs, he looks slightly uncanny even without his mask.

Hair: Silver-blond and quite fluffy. Looks almost properly blond, or full white depending on the lighting/artist. Some skins depict him with other hair colors, but we don't count those as pertinent for this Ithaqua.

Eyes: Black sclera with white irises and pupils, though his mask has black sclera with blue irises, which confuses people. Formerly had normal sclera and blue eyes.

Voice: CN: An Zhi | EN: Krishna Kumar: one, two | JP: Hoshi Souichiro : one, two. In English, Ithaqua sounds faux-British in the "hailing from a fantasy land" way.

Language: Norwegian, possibly Icelandic or another descendant of Old Norse, and potentially English. He doesn't come from a country with a parallel in the real world but rather some place inspired by Lovecraft's works, which makes many things vague. All we know of his homeland is that it's on Earth, and somewhere very far north, and what we know of his mother is that she was a Viking.

Scent: Slightly earthy and crisp like the forest, and sometimes bitter like medicinal herbs. He can also smell like blood, depending on whether or not he managed to hunt someone for sport or something for food that day.

Hand dominance: Right-handed for just about everything.

Literacy: Can read and write, and can easily copy someone's writing style.

Triggers: Being reminded about his face, his twin, being told his mother is beyond help, people trying to hurt animals. These are usually anger triggers, and his usual reaction to anyone touching on any of these is physical violence.
a
Headcanons:
  • Ithaqua is colder than a human mostly due to his unique biology and skillset, and he's not bothered at all by colder climates.
  • He barely remembers his real name, and has lost track of how old he is.
  • He's a young eldritch abomination/Great Old One ala Lovecraftian mythos-- in the actual mythos, Ithaqua is the son of the King in Yellow/Hastur, who is Cthulhu's brother. Hastur is also present in IDV in a role similar to the one he has in the mythos, but his actual relationship with Ithaqua is still unknown. Ithaqua was born human and turned later in life, and while physical changes are already present on his body, he's still far from achieving his full power and "final form" due to being so young.

[Hello! This is Eorzea... Or Etheirys, if Ithaqua and Urianger are currently not in Eorzea specifically. Maybe you have come to visit, though Ithaqua is the one you have to deal with for now-- or maybe he's the one you were here for in the first place.

Or perhaps you decided to reach him through the journal instead, in which case, he'll have to get back to you when he's not busy.

But if this is not Eorzea... idk let's write another scenario. i'm not the boss of you]

OUT OF CHARACTER

Backtagging: Yes please. I live all the way in Southeast Asia (GMT+8) so my schedule is different from most.

Threadhopping: Sure.

4th wall/infomodding: If your character is familiar with the Cthulhu Mythos, feel free to have them assume that he's "that" Ithaqua. Otherwise, no, unless you're playing a castmate who would know about Ithaqua already via canon means (like Orpheus, maybe Hastur and Yidhra).

Crosscanon: Always and forever YES.

OOC Nos: Sexual abuse/rape, cannibalism, child abuse, domestic violence, animal abuse (hunting for necessity is fine), dental horror/mouth stuff (teeth are fine, everything else is not), removal of fingernails/toenails. I'm fine with these themes being mentioned or part of an event, just not RPing them out.

Others: Due to previous experiences, I don't RP with malleable or blank slate protagonists (e.g. FFXIV WoLs+Azems, Hoyoverse main characters, Dragon Age protagonists, Fire Emblem Avatars, etc.), or fandom OCs (TTRPGs are an exception), or interact with their players.

IN CHARACTER

Warnings: Ithaqua's background has infant mortality (his own, in fact), mentions of torture, fratricide, mental illness, the hunting of humans, and copious amounts of human cruelty. Ithaqua himself delights in hunting humans, fully capable of describing his actions in graphic detail, and proclaims himself a barbarian who spurns civilization.

Physical affection: If faced with a stranger or someone he doesn't care for, he would rather not, and will very politely tell someone as much. However, if the person asking is someone Ithaqua has some positive CR with, he'll be quite shy but eventually allow it. As for sneak hugs, he might claw at the offender.

Flirting: I'm fine with it, but Ithaqua will react differently depending on how it's performed. Too subtle, and he won't notice. Too overt, and he'll get annoyed.

Casual sex: Sure, though only with people he knows and has relatively decent CR with. He just doesn't know how since he's never done it before, so it could be a fun learning experience for him. 18+.

Romance: Some build-up required given Ithaqua's... everything. He's a mess, he's dangerous and proud of it, and tends to spurn the presence of others because it's easier to protect what matters to him if no humans are around-- and he doesn't like humans either, so he thinks he's not missing out. Non-humans will have an easier time with him, though. However, that's not to say he'd say no if there's enough chemistry and pining, no matter who it is. 18+

Fighting: Sure. Ithaqua is down for a scrap, but he's not going to play by any rules or be nice about it. He may be polite, but fighting is where he's at his most barbaric, pulling no punches. He usually fights to kill, though can take it easy if it's just a friendly scrap.

Injuries: Sure. I'm down with scars, but not maiming.

Blood: No adverse reactions to seeing blood, and nothing special in his blood either (unless he's not human, but that's still unconfirmed), but he will not be happy if someone makes him bleed, because he's absolutely going to retaliate.

Death: Depends on whether or not the game has revival mechanics, but in general, run it by me first.

Telepathy/mind reading abilities: Majority of his thoughts revolve around planning for how to care for his mother that day, and the rest are about chores like cleaning and restocking food stores, how to keep busy when his mother doesn't need him, and checking to see if the forest is still safe.

Mind control: It depends what he'll do under the influence, let's talk it over first.

Opt-out: Don't want to RP with him, or just want to avoid having specific things mentioned in threads? Feel free to comment down below. All comments are screened for privacy.

The people of the Plateau of Leng, in the Far North, are intensely religious and have a specific set of beliefs about stillborn children-- that they're either a curse of a witch onto the family, or the child of a demon and an impure mother. Because the younger of his twin sons was born as such, the magistrate of a small town on the plateau made sure that no one ever knew the truth, from threatening the servants and employees into claiming that only one son was born to the family, to disposing of the body deep in the forest in the middle of winter. Certainly, this was the 17th century, so there were no paved roads or heat packs or cars, so no one would have come across the body, right?

However, a Viking witch and astrologer named Lagertha Vilulf came across the body and took it, managing to revive the child and raising him as her own in a small cottage deep in the woods. She named him Eta after the star that guided her to him and taught him how to read, write, hunt, and survive off the land, as well as some old folktales of beings that walked the earth like the abominable snowman.

One day, when Eta was already a young adult, some townspeople came to their house and dragged his mother away for the crime of witchcraft despite being as god-fearing as the rest of them. Her son only managed to escape the same fate because she had hidden him away. However, he did witness a startling sight-- the head of the violent mob, the magistrate's son named Nathaniel Norwell, had the exact same face as him. With this knowledge, he infiltrated the town by simply walking in, unchallenged because of his face (though people were confused by his somber attitude, which was unlike Nathaniel).

However, aside from rescuing his mother, he had a secondary goal because he wasn't about to let the transgressions against her go unpunished. He snuck into the Norwell family home and murdered his twin in the man's own room, removing any evidence of foul play by mimicking Nathaniel's handwriting to forge a suicide note.

Unfortunately, his mother was unwell in all meanings of the word. She was weakened from her ordeal but couldn't speak and was no longer able to care for herself, and her mental state worsened whenever she looked at Eta's face-- Nathaniel had tortured her to insanity and near catatonia, and she couldn't recognize her son, only the face of the man who harmed her and the associations of fear and pain that came with it. This made her lash out and cry uncontrollably every time she saw Eta, making him curse the face he shared with that man and wear a mask to keep it hidden.

Eta swore he would protect her, and began attacking and most likely killing anyone who came deep into the woods, especially on nights that blizzards raged and caused anyone passing by to become lost. It eventually garnered him a reputation, the people whispering about the stories of the abominable snowman being real, to the point of calling him the name of the monster in the old tales, Ithaqua, the Walking Death.

For his part, he embraced this new title and role-- only one person knew his true name, but she was no longer able to even speak to him-- and even claimed to have thrown away his humanity. Whether or not this is metaphorical or literal is unknown, but he does have powers that ordinary humans don't, and his body, particularly his eyes, changed after the incident.

However, life still isn't smooth sailing even after he's established himself as the Plateau's abominable snowman. Later on in life, over the dozens of years of living as the forest's guardian monster and bane of the town, Ithaqua will develop memory problems so intense that it might as well be a sieve because he will barely remember his real name but completely forget who gave it to him and who he turned into a monster for-- because he thoroughly forgot about his origins, his mother clearly died at some point and could no longer be a reminder as a result. Sometimes, he will even forget what happened to him the previous day, and he'll simply accept this as normal.

Eventually, during the later years of the Victorian era, someone would start to conduct odd experiments in a manor just outside of London, and use people as his test subjects, luring them in with promises of awarding them with their heart's desire if they managed to win a "game" against other participants. However, the word "game" was deceptive, as they were forced to play by arbitrary rules set by the owner of the manor, and more often than not, the participants were forced to kill one another or survive a dangerous killer. One of those participants was Ithaqua, though it's currently unknown how he managed to get on the manor owner's radar and how he was coaxed to join.
